Privacy Policy
I (Chris Scott) built the FastenAR app as a free app. This service is provided by me at no cost and is intended for use as is.
Your privacy is important to me and it is my policy to respect your privacy regarding any information I may collect from you through FastenAR.
Information Collection and Use
I only ask for personal information when I truly need it to provide a service to you. I collect it by fair and lawful means, with your knowledge and consent. I’ll also let you know why I’m collecting it and how it will be used.
Permissions Used
The FastenAR app requires the following permissions:
Camera Access: Required for capturing images of nuts and bolts for measurement. Images are processed in real-time and are not stored permanently unless you explicitly save a measurement to your library.
Photo Library Access: Optional permission that allows you to measure fasteners from existing photos. Used only when you choose to import photos from your library.
ARKit: Required for augmented reality features and LiDAR depth sensing. This enables the core measurement functionality of the app.
LiDAR Sensor: Required for precise distance measurement to calculate accurate fastener dimensions.
Data Storage
All data collected by the FastenAR app is stored locally on your device using UserDefaults. Specifically:
- Recent History: Your last 5 measurements are automatically saved
- Saved Library: Measurements you explicitly save with names and descriptions
- User Preferences: Settings like measurement unit preferences
Important: Captured images are NOT persisted to save storage space and protect your privacy. Only measurement data (dimensions, socket sizes) is stored.
What We Don’t Do
- No Cloud Sync: All data stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded to servers.
- No Analytics: We don’t track how you use the app or collect usage statistics.
- No Third-Party Tracking: No third-party analytics services, advertising networks, or tracking SDKs are used.
- No Data Sharing: We never share any information with third parties.
- No Accounts: No user accounts, login, or authentication required.
Data Retention
I only retain collected information for as long as necessary to provide you with your requested service. What data I store, I’ll protect within commercially acceptable means to prevent loss and theft, as well as unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use or modification.
You can delete all stored measurements at any time through the app’s interface. Deleting the app will permanently remove all stored data from your device.
External Links
My app may link to external sites that are not operated by me. Please be aware that I have no control over the content and practices of these sites, and cannot accept responsibility or liability for their respective privacy policies.
Your Rights
You are free to refuse the app’s request for permissions, with the understanding that I may be unable to provide you with some of the app’s features:
- Without camera access, the app cannot capture measurements
- Without ARKit/LiDAR access, measurements cannot be made
- Without photo library access, you cannot measure from existing photos (but live camera will still work)
Changes to This Policy
Your continued use of the app will be regarded as acceptance of my practices around privacy and personal information. If you have any questions about how I handle your data and personal information, feel free to contact me on Bluesky at @chrisscott.bsky.social.
Compliance
This app complies with:
- Apple’s App Store Review Guidelines
- iOS privacy requirements
- General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) principles
- California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) principles
Since all data is stored locally and never transmitted, there are no data breach risks or server-side vulnerabilities.
